Manufacturing is valued as an integral and important part of Toronto’s economy and tax base providing family sustaining jobs.
TIN member companies represent a wide range of manufacturing sectors including food and beverage processing, paper product manufacturing and packaging, building materials such as fiberglass, cement and concrete, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, plastic pipe systems, electrical equipment, petroleum, general manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.
Many of these products are used directly by Torontonians while many others are exported bringing wealth to our city.
ABOUT OUR NETWORK
As an advocate for manufacturing in Toronto, TIN is keenly interested in increasing the City’s competitiveness not only in Canada but abroad.
TIN provides the manufacturing community with a strong voice at City Hall and Queen’s Park by participating in the formulation of policies that affect industrial operations.
In working to help make our City more competitive for manufacturing within Canada and internationally, TIN has been very engaged in recent activities such as: maintaining and protecting industrial land, noise regulations, ensuring reliable and cost-effective municipal utility costs and services, competitive property taxes, the efficient transportation of goods in and out of the City, and maintaining an operational Port.

• According to the 2022 Toronto Employment Survey, there are 23 Areas of Employment (AOE) where manufacturing is clustered. These AOE employ some 398,290 people or 26,8% of all employment in the city.
• In 2021, 93% of the 127,030 persons employed in the manufacturing sector were in full-time positions. Manufacturing accounted for 9.7% of total direct employment. Manufacturing levels experienced small declines or held steady during the Pandemic which reflects the fact that manufacturing was deemed an essential service not subject to shut down.
